A sculptural vintage elephant side table or stool, hand-carved from a single solid block of tropical hardwood and likely originating from Thailand.
Thailand, and particularly the Chiang Mai region, has a longstanding tradition of carving functional decorative objects from dense tropical hardwoods such as monkey pod and acacia. Elephant-form tables and stools are a distinctive expression of this craft, combining figurative sculpture with practical furniture.
This example depicts a standing elephant supporting a circular platform above its raised trunk. Carved entirely in the round, the piece has expressive detailing throughout the head, ears, trunk and body, while the warm aged surface and natural variations in the wood give it considerable character.
Compact yet sculptural, it works particularly well as a small side table, plant stand, pedestal or decorative object.

Condition
Very good vintage condition. A natural drying crack is visible across part of the top plateau, typical of solid wood pieces over time. Because the object is carved from one single block of wood, the integrity of the structure remains intact. Surface wear consistent with age and use.
