A charming piece of mid-century French history, this original double-sided educational wall chart was published by Éditions Rossignol in Montmorillon, France, for use in French classrooms.
Richly illustrated in vibrant colors, the poster offers two fascinating views of the modern world as seen through the eyes of a French schoolchild during the postwar decades.
Side 60 – L’Avenue des Champs-Élysées
A lively illustration of Paris’s celebrated avenue, filled with fashionable pedestrians, children, cafés, bustling shopfronts and vintage automobiles. The Arc de Triomphe appears in the distance, while a shop window displays early televisions, radios and cameras.
The colorful scene captures the optimism, elegance and everyday life of mid-century Paris, making it particularly appealing as decorative wall art.
Side 59 – Les Progrès Techniques
The reverse celebrates technological progress through a striking composition featuring a jet aircraft, an electric train, modern motorways, automobiles and contemporary apartment buildings.
Two young people seated on a grassy hillside observe this rapidly changing world, adding a wonderfully nostalgic human element to the illustration.
