An enchanting vintage French-sourced oil painting on an oval wooden panel, portraying an elegant young woman holding a small bird delicately on her fingertips. Signed Nadja in the lower right corner, this distinctive original artwork combines romantic portraiture with a dreamlike, almost storybook quality.
The painting is particularly appealing for its stylised proportions, graceful composition and harmonious palette of warm ochres, dusty pink, antique gold and muted sage green. Its aesthetic evokes the romantic traditions of mid-20th-century figurative painting, with subtle Art Deco influences.
Painted directly onto a thin, oval-shaped wooden panel, the work is presented without a frame, its unusual silhouette forming an integral part of its decorative charm. A hanging fixture on the reverse allows it to be displayed directly on the wall.
Sourced in France from a private family collection, where it had reportedly remained for decades, the painting is signed Nadja, although the artist's identity and exact date of execution remain unknown.
A wonderfully individual piece of vintage figurative art, selected for its romantic subject, unusual form and captivating decorative presence.
Condition
Good vintage decorative condition, with age-related wear. Scattered surface marks, minor paint losses and wear along the edges are visible. The reverse retains pencil layout markings, areas of discoloration and a hanging fixture.
