A distinctive vintage French copper pitcher from Villedieu-les-Poêles, Normandy, celebrated for its long tradition of copper craftsmanship.
The pitcher features a beautifully rounded, vertically fluted body, a dramatically flared, sculptural pouring rim and an elegant brass-toned handle with a curled lower terminal. Its warm copper surface displays subtle variations in colour, ranging from golden brown to reddish tones, giving the piece a rich, timeworn character.
The underside bears a stamped Viking ship emblem with the inscription “Marque Déposée – Garanti Villedieu – France,” identifying its association with the historic French copperworking centre.
Likely dating to the mid-20th century, this petite pitcher makes an appealing decorative accent on a mantel, shelf or console, whether displayed alone or styled with dried botanical stems.
Condition
Good vintage condition, with natural patina, surface scratches, minor marks and variations in the copper finish consistent with age and previous use.
