A striking large French art pottery bowl, attributed to the Faïencerie de Pierrefonds, featuring a richly textured crystalline-style glaze applied to the interior in nuanced tones of olive green, soft white, and warm amber. The exterior presents a smooth, matte finish that contrasts beautifully with the luminous, mineral surface within.

The interior glaze displays characteristic crystalline effects—organic blooms, micro-crystals, and subtle color transitions—typical of experimental French ceramic production from the early to mid-20th century. The gently undulating rim adds a hand-shaped, studio-art quality that enhances the sculptural presence of the piece.

Signed “Pierrefonds” on the base, this bowl is offered with careful attribution. While it does not bear the heraldic shield stamp sometimes associated with the manufacture, the signature and glaze technique are consistent with works attributed to Pierrefonds.

An elegant decorative object, ideal as a centerpiece bowl or sculptural accent in a refined interior.

About Faïencerie de Pierrefonds
Founded in 1903–1904 in the scenic town of Pierrefonds, the Faïencerie de Pierrefonds — originally known as Faïencerie Héraldique — began under the leadership of Count Olivier Hallez d’Arros. Early on the manufactory attracted artistic talent, and in 1912 ceramist and sculptor Émile Bouillon brought a new creative direction to the workshop. Pierrefonds became known for its richly glazed stoneware (grès) featuring spectacular crystalline and artful enamel effects, evolving through Art Nouveau into refined early 20th-century decorative styles. Many pieces bear distinctive marks such as a helmeted knight between the letters F and H, referring to the company’s original name, Faïencerie Héraldique. Produced in modest numbers with a strong artistic identity, Pierrefonds ceramics are prized today for their expressive glazes, sculptural forms, and their place within France’s decorative arts heritage.
