Large sculptural Art Nouveau barbotine vase by L’Herminie-Declercq for the Faïencerie d’Orchies, France, circa 1895–1910. This striking example features an elongated organic form with flowing high-relief decoration, four stylised applied handles, and richly glazed polychrome tones in deep ruby red, olive green, amber, and black. The piece rests on small sculptural feet typical of Orchies production. The reverse bears the impressed mark “DL / FRANCE / 472,” confirming the model and workshop.
About Faïencerie d'Orchies Founded in 1886 in the Nord region of France, the Faïencerie d’Orchies was established by Emile and Joseph L’Herminie–Declercq and became known for its richly modeled barbotine ceramics. The manufactory produced expressive earthenware decorated in relief with naturalistic motifs, reflecting the late 19th-century taste for sculptural surface and vibrant glaze. Pieces marked “Orchies L’Herminie–Declercq” belong to this important period of northern French decorative faience and are appreciated today for their craftsmanship and strong decorative presence.
