A charming antique French terracotta cruche, featuring a rounded body, short pouring spout, two arched handles and a beautifully weathered surface with remnants of warm honey-ochre glaze.
Dating to approximately the late 19th or early 20th century, this traditional utilitarian vessel is a lovely example of French pottery, now equally appealing as a sculptural decorative object.
Provenance & A Shared History
Acquired from a private collection, this antique cruche previously belonged to a bourgeois household in France. The former owner fondly remembers seeing it in her grandmother's home since childhood, where it was displayed alongside a larger antique walnut oil jug for many decades.
Having shared a place in the same family home for so long, the two vessels have become companions of sorts, carrying a special history together (see last photo).
The larger jug is also available for purchase separately (reference CA0199). If you would like to give both pieces a new home together, please contact me before ordering for a personalized combined shipping quote. I would be delighted to help keep this charming pair together.
Condition
In good antique condition, with a rich, naturally aged patina, areas of glaze loss, surface wear and minor chips around the pouring spout, consistent with age and use. For decorative use only.
