An antique French stoneware confit pot, or traditional preserve jar, once used in country kitchens to store meats such as duck, goose, and pork preserved in rendered fat. Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this substantial vessel features a warm honey-brown glaze, a generously rolled rim, and two sturdy loop handles. Fine horizontal incised bands encircle the shoulders, while the hand-marked numeral 6 may indicate its original capacity or size.
With its generous proportions, warm earthy tones, and understated character, this antique French confit pot makes a beautiful decorative planter or cachepot, ideal for displaying a leafy plant or a small indoor tree. Equally attractive as a standalone statement piece on a farmhouse table, antique sideboard, or in a collected interior, it brings a sense of history and timeless French country charm to its surroundings.
Condition
Very good antique condition, with minor surface marks, natural glaze variations and light wear consistent with age and previous use. Small areas of wear and minor chips are visible around the underside of the base. The interior is glazed and appears well preserved.
