A refined 19th century French Empire gueridon crafted in mahogany, featuring a substantial and beautifully veined marble top and finely cast gilt metal mounts (traditionally referred to as bronze doré / ormolu).
The warm ochre and cream tones of the thick marble top complement the rich mahogany veneer arranged in symmetrical chevron patterns across the façade. The marble slab is particularly heavy and rests securely in place without adhesive, consistent with traditional cabinetmaking practices and allowing for safe transport and conservation.
Two drawers are constructed in traditional queue d’aronde (dovetail) joinery. The elegant gilt mounts and sabots reinforce the restrained neoclassical Empire aesthetic while maintaining refined proportions suitable for both classical and contemporary interiors.
Condition
Very good antique condition. Structurally sound. The back panel presents small, old and inactive woodworm marks and a stable, non-structural age-related crack confined to the reverse—both consistent with age and not affecting integrity or use.
